What's fascinating to me is the culture that's arisen to elevate rape as a horror beyond murder. WTF, people.

I actually think it's damaging to rape victims to frame it like that.

"You might as well be DEAD! Your soul is removed! You'll never be the same again!"

This actually happened to me. My rape was bad, but the reactions of everyone around me are what really traumatized me. Because I came to terms with what happened and got over it "too quickly", people started scrutinizing me and insisting that I was damaged and stuffing it all down. It was super fucked-up. A few of them got honestly angry that I wasn't victim-y enough for them.

It's really daft is what it is.

I'm no fan of rape culture, and I understand that building (or rebuilding) a taboo is hard.

But I get annoyed at the rhetoric, too.
