As the other anon said, they are not all the same size. I would make it a bit bigger than 6" though as babies grow fast as fuck. It better for the baby to grow into it rather than for it to be too small from the start.

Anon from above agreeing with you on this. I've handmade stuff for newborns, and it's a bummer when they outgrow that cute little onesie in like .5 seconds.

Fair, and thank you for the interest, but my problem is I don't even have a starting point for this. I've got some ideas for allowing the outfit to 'grow' somewhat, but I still need a starting point and it's been almost ten years since I've held anything under about 8 months. People tell me weight and I compare it with other weight, but that doesn't mean I have a *clue* when I hold up an outfit and eyeball it.
