DROP EVERYTHING!

[personal profile] kaijinscendre 2015-09-26 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
I just saw a new deaging fic in one of my fandoms. I love that trope so much, I have to drop everything else just so I can read that fic.

What are some tropes/setting/AUs that you will drop all your other fics for to binge read?

What do you like about deaging fics?

As for me, daemons and time travel. I will read that shit sometimes even if I don't know the fandom because DAEMONS AND TIME TRAVEL!

Hrm. I just really like seeing my favorite characters learning how to take care of children. It is even better if it is a character who isn't used to children (this fic is Bucky taking care of little Steve) OR if they have to take care of a kid version of an enemy.

I also like kidfics where someone somehow procures a kid that they have to take care of.

That sounds cute. I can see why you like it.

I read this as "dee-ging" fics.

The A is sad you have erased it from a word. :(

Wingfic and any sort of sci-fi AU (especially space opera).

When I was in the SPN fandom, I loved Wingfic! But since leaving, I don't really see all that much. :( Where do you find most of yours?

I have read 1-2 great sci-fi AUs though.

Good Omens, mostly. I don't come across much wingfic in any of my other fandoms (I couldn't ever get into Supernatural, which is a pity since I'm sure that fandom has no shortage of wingfic).

I've noticed the genre is slightly more prominant in older fandoms, though.

Bodyswap, I love it(bonus points if it turns sexy).

I don't see it much in fic, but I love it when I see it. I've read 1-2 really good MCU ones.

I've read maybe 3-4 in the MCU in total? Which makes me sad because it's a premise I love, shippy or not I just find it fun.

It is legitimately baffling to me how rare sexy bodyswap fic is

I know! It has such great potential for sexy fun times, but alas it remains elusive.

Time travel, time loops, some other sci-fi AUs

Also, anything featuring certain characters will make me stop and read no matter what.

I like time loops and time travel but several I've read have ended sadly so I am always wary of them.

Yeah, there are 1-2 characters that get no fic that I love seeing updates for.

"Going back in time to re-do own life" is a real favourite of mine; as is genderswap, though that one is exceptionally variable in quality.

Oh, yeah. I enjoy people doing life re-dos! or at least, certain event re-dos.

It's kind of embarrassing because I've seen people complain about it a bunch, but fic with asexual characters. I don't think that really counts as a trope, but whatever. It's so rare to find it done well (it usually comes across as a direct-from-Tumblr preachy PSA) but I really enjoy it when I find a good one.

Hey, the rarer the trope is to find the more exciting it is to read!

When done right, this can be a fantastic trope. But sometimes authors rush with a relationship too quickly so it turns out skeevy.

Time-travel fit-it fics, "For Want of a Nail" fics, crossovers that are "Person from one fandom turns up in other fandom" (there are too many crossovers that replace the characters of one fandom with those of another). Usually with a fix-it too.

Ah! For Want Of A Nail scenarios are fantastic Fix-It type fics to read.

Hogwarts AUs.

Other than that, there are some pairings I will read any new fic for.
