I empathize with him as a character a little too much, I think. I can see how he justifies himself and it resonates with me. I want to help him-- not necessarily help him kill people, but help him be... happier, I guess. And no, I don't want him to kill me-- but if i had a power and he came to take it I don't think I'd try to stop him.

Originally the secret was just supposed to be a novel and slightly disturbing way of expressing lust, but I think I like it better now that it's gotten philosophical on me.

Aaah, lust. That may explain why I didn't see it from the beginning: I'm terrible with lust-related euphemisms. VERY WELL THEN, good that you aren't suicidal, just attracted to... uncommon, I believe will be a diplomatic way to word it, men. And while I wish I could condemn someone helping a murderer be happy, well. Being happy, or perhaps harmonious is a better word, is always a nice thing to do in my book. Because as it stands, I have no doubt the man is deeply unhappy.

Translation: you think you deserve to be more special than anyone else, and killing people is a natural, evolutionary way for you to become more special than anyone else.

I want to help him-- not necessarily help him kill people, but help him be... happier, I guess.

Thanslation: you want to help him be happier, and the only way Sylar gets happier by killing people, so you want to help him kill people.

Oh yes. Your interpretations of my words precisely express the meaning I intended to convey, and I intentionally lied about my wishes just to amuse you. *rolls eyes*

I don't want to be more special than anyone, nor do I think I deserve to, nor do I think killing people would be a good way for me to go about it if I did. I see him wanting that, and thinking that, and I empathize-- but for his sake, not for mine.

As for your second point: the premises together do not entail the conclusion. I can want him to be happier and not want him to kill people without contradiction, even if his only source of joy is murder; all that's required is for me to accept that I can't make him happier. Which is remarkably easy considering he's a fictional character for God's sake.

Also, there's no indication that he is completely devoid of non-homicidal pastimes. Yes, his driving purpose is taking people's powers, and murder is what brings him the most joy. That doesn't mean he can't enjoy other things, like fixing his mother's old clock or standing around eating ice cream. Or sending Mohinder threatening phone calls.
