And it's not about "marrying a rich guy." Practically speaking, a lot of women were stuck if they didn't inherit anything and couldn't find a man with some kind of income, but that isn't even the plot of all her books. (Emma had her own money, for example, and pretty much pretended she didn't care if she got married or not.) Generally you can see the contempt in the books for women who marry for money or social status if they don't respect the person.
I mean, if people don't like them, fine, they don't like them. I don't really care; they're just books, but... they're not supposed to be about how wonderful and romantic being rich is. That's just a huge misinterpretation.
