Do you mean in the same fic, or across their entire body of work?

I think they mean one author writing several different ships involving one character.
Like, having a favorite author that usually writes for a/b but they start writing for a/c.

I guess if the person got attached to the dynamic the author set up for a/b it feels like cheating to see a/c.

Well I thought it meant in the same fic. Maybe that's because I don't feel a writer is "cheating" if they write another pairing, but instead respect that they can write other things.

But A/B and A/C in the same fic? I expect that to mean either a past relationship for one pair, a breakup, a threesome (I like threesome fics, depending on who all three are), or a messy triangle (I hate triangle fics).
