Yea, it sounds like they were responding to something rather specific. (And to be fair, "I didn't even know you were a thing" is kind of a weird thing to say to someone. They repeat it too, "I've never heard of you." Like...what are you supposed to say to that? lol. I read the authors response as a "I'm obsessed with this thing, how couldn't you notice?" kind of statement, not "I'm the best, most popular writer in this fandom." If the person in question posts a lot of content, it probably would be hard to miss them.)
