I was curious about this. I'm not in this fandom but I know for my own fandom, there are people who are BNF or certain eras of the show. It's possible the ASKer was only reading fics of a certain type, and only just discovered this other type or era.

*shrugs* I don't think either the ask or answer are rude. I mean, look at all the stumbling around in both to NOT come off as rude but still get their point across. It's hard to capture nuance in tumblr ask ommunication.
