..I guess I should have have been more specific.

People talking about secondhand embarrassment for a real person who is not acting or playing a role,is IMO usually judgey. Comedy shows are different because they often set up purposefully embarrassing scenarios.

I can't speak for others, but for me secondhand embarrassment irl is very different from being judgey. Sometimes I'll see people doing something and some part of me is really happy for them that they're having fun and doing it (and maybe wishing I dared do it myself), yet simultaneously I want to die of embarrassment over it.

I mean, in the case of secret 9, for example - there's nothing actually WRONG with what they did, unless the guidelines for the writing group specifically say 'no fanfiction'. It might've been a decent fic, too. I've seen plenty of original writing that is cringingly bad. If this is what they wanted to write, I'm not actually judging them for it, or for bringing it to the group to critique. I don't think there's anything wrong.

But I am kind of embarrassed thinking about it.
