I specified going on about one's "secondhand embarrassment". I'm not saying the FEELING is wrong or doesn't exist. Just talking about how some people often go on and on about feeling embarrassed for someone as a low-key way of expressing disapproval.

Sort of like for some Southern people "bless their heart" is often part of a backhanded insult.

But if you say that something gives you SE, how are you being passive-aggressive? You are literally saying that the thing is embarrassing: that it is bad.
