Technology has a negative impact on most kids' emotional, physical, sensory, mental, pretty much most development. The scientific evidence is nascent but growing.

Agreed, especially for fandom types. It's probably made me more of a recluse and I use it numb negative thoughts.

without technology you'd read books, imho

Not necessarily. I'm a very visually orientated person, so books bored me. I also can't aimlessly refresh a book to get new content or have a book respond back to me.

I might turn to another addiction, but there's few things with the internet's ease of access.

Yeah, I have to agree. It'll be interesting to see how this generational science experiment actually shakes out, but I think it's concerning.

The biggest factor is probably that kids don't do well when they don't spend time with their parents. TV and video games are just a particularly common crutch when Mommy and Daddy work two jobs and have no energy left.

Idk. My parents were very busy, but they put me in a kindergarten and school that were both very outside-oriented - in the woods, lots of stuff done outside, emphasis on practical work like building your own furniture and stuff, and they also made sure I went to sports and other activities after school (which was already until 4pm) so I didn't have much time to watch TV and use the computer. I didn't spend much time with parents either, though.
