Re: How much do separate irl and fandom?

I come from a fandom family, way back to the original Trekkies, so my family knows my fannish activities, which consist mostly of reading/writing fanfiction and online discussions. Most of my family does not know my online handles, though.

Outside of family, I would say I'm mostly undercover. While I will wear fan-related shirts and can knowledgeably discuss A LOT of fandom-related shows, comics, etc., I don't go out of my way to advertise. It seems like people commenting above do consider that advertising - I don't hide my interests, per se, but I never ever tell them that it includes fanfic.

I went to one convention and no one outside my family knew why I was really travelling. I asked fellow con-goers who knew that they were there, and most of them admitted that only family knew where they really were.
