I haven't seen it yet, but I look forward to that sculpture.

Kind of off-topic

I can't be the only American who's puzzled by PBS changing the name to "The Great British Baking Show." Is this some pathetic attempt to sound high-class?

The Pillsbury(?) Bake-off means they're not allowed to use the bake-off name.

Is it a bake-off, or a personality-off?

I mean, I'm only half-joking. I guess sometimes shows like that (d)evolve into reality TV drama, and are no longer really about the original content, to the fans?

I agree that sometimes happens, but that's how the Great British Bake Off is. GBBO is pretty drama-free in general. Or I should clarify: the kind of "drama" GBBO has is when some guy gets frustrated and throws his baked Alaska in the trash.

Yeah, he's been my least favourite for a while, even though I think he deserves to win more than any of them, and that nobody has left or is left who ever could have beaten him. I don't know whether I actually want him to win or not, but I'd say 'not'. I'll tolerate any of the remaining four winning though.

He gives off this really smug vibe, imo. It puts me off him.

(Anonymous) 2015-09-29 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I think this is what bugs me about him too, a little bit.

nayrt

I think the turning point was about three or four episodes ago, when he seemed to suddenly relax and get more comfortable talking about fancy holidays in the south of France, raising quail, and eating roadkill. None of those things are bad or fucked up, it's just... it all came at once? Like he suddenly didn't mind about not being relatable any more? Meanwhile we've got Tamal, who's blossoming as a baker now he's getting a bit more confident, and Nadiya, who's the eyebrow queen of my heart and way back in episode one was vaguely mothering Dorret and just seemed to want things to be okay... I'm rooting for Tamal or Nadiya. I'm hoping it'll seem justified if one of them wins. I know it all comes down to the single episode, so I have my hopes.

NAYRT Totally agree. Tamal and Nadiye are my favourites to win. I hope Nadiye wins personally. She should at least get a baking show out of this.

this show makes me wish the Two Fat Ladies were still alive.
