Wow, I always feel bad for people who age this badly. Poor woman.

I think drugs and/or alcohol have contributed more than the general aging.

I always found Kes rather annoying, but I also found her relationship with Neelix really weird. Wasn't she basically a child (for her species)?

But wow, now I have to go look this lady up. Wtf happened?

In September 2015, Lien was arrested in Harriman, Tennessee for two counts of misdemeanor exposure after allegedly exposing herself to a child under the age of 13. During an argument with a neighbor (which reportedly started with Lien criticizing her neighbor's parenting skills after her children began crying),[14] Lien allegedly exposed her breasts and buttocks after being told to "mind her own business."[15] Lien reportedly threatened the police who arrested her.[14][15]

I din't think that was it exactly? Her species had very short lives (like 9 was considered old?). I got the impression that before that she and Neelix had a romantic relationship (with definite parental overtones on his side) that had never been physically consummated.

Yeah, I agree. It made me a bit sad.

...not seeing how she's so ~hideous. She just look like she's older, which happens, and there's some unflattering light and expressions and unflattering hair and lack of makeup by Hollywood standards.

No one is saying she's ~hideous. But that isn't just unflattering light, and getting coarse like that isn't just some natural process of age. She looks like Belle Gunness, the serial murderer.

Well, maybe not hideous, but it's a bit of a come down to start off looking like an adorable life size Tinker Bell and end up looking like Aileen Wuornos. And she's only 41, so shiiiiiiiiiiit. Don't do drugs, children...

I was horrified when I heard about this. Seeing those pictures only makes it worse. She was never my favorite character or actress, but she was one of the sweetest and innocent things in my teenage fandom. It's so sad. I hope she gets the help she needs.

As someone currently on a (first) watch-through of Voyager - what?!

Unlike with other Star Trek series, none of the actors are particularly on my radar (except occasionally Kate Mulgrew I guess). And this is sad :(

I think she has some serious issues and I just hope she gets help for them.

That makes me sad. I hope she gets the help she needs for whatever issues it is she's dealing with.

I know, I know - life can suck for all of us, no matter who or what we are - but I think it makes it harder when you used to be considered a celebrity. After you fall from grace, all of your private struggles are open to the world. That's gotta be just awful.

I hope she turns things around.

I remember she had a really cool, distinctive voice. I was aware of her before Voyager.

How old are you? When you're her age, you'll definitely look at yourself in the mirror and think: where did young, clear-skinned me go? And hopefully you'll be able to love yourself still and think that the wrinkles and sagging are signs of a well lived life and much valuable experience. (Wrinkled skin is also best for hugging.)
