Yeah! I used to be really pessimistic and very idealistic, so it's a big change for me thinking optimistically and although it felt a bit fake at first, I do actually feel a lot better! And trying to laugh about all the shit bits. And keeping trying on focussing more on what I do have not what I don't (which still doesn't stop me from wanting more, being human, not that it's always possible).

Oh, yeah, I think you're right that it's totally natural that we'll always long, on some level, for what we don't have. And in some ways that can be a good thing, if what we want is something attainable. It's a good way to set goals and keep us motivated. There's nothing wrong with wanting more and wanting the best out of life in and of itself, it's all in how you go about getting it, I think, that matters.

I'm glad that your change in thinking has been working out well for you :)! I know what you mean about it sounding a bit "fake" at first-there are those people who do seem SUPER cheery to the point of being unrealistic, 'cause, well, everyone has shit days and everyone's going to be in a crap mood at some point, y'know?

But a genuinely positive mood every now and again is certainly a welcome and good thing. I hope that thinking continues to bode well for you.

As for laughing about the shit stuff, my dad always reminded me that it was pointless to worry about things we can't control (and he had to remind me of that a LOT, because I take after my mom and grandma in being a total worrywart :p). I keep trying to remind myself of that fact as often as possible.
