I was into this as well, for similar reasons, until they announced only the main character is playable. Incidentally, Noctis is the only one I don't find attractive at all so... bye bye interest. :^(

I can understand why you feel that way. But I'm personally very fond of having a team of AI characters with me, especially ones that behave the way the FF XV party does in what I've seen of Episode Duscae. It makes me care about them in a way I wouldn't if they were actually playable. And I really like that Noctis' friends don't look like the usual perfect FF dolls. I was just a bit disappointed when I realized that Prompto had freckles, not acne or some other skin condition. Because a character with acne would have been awesome.
