What sort of story would you like to see more of?

(Anonymous) 2015-09-29 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
What I mean is "I'd like to see more stories about wizards!" Or "I'd like to see more stories about zombies!"

I'd like to see more stories about travel between worlds from one fictional world to another, not from our world.

Have you read Martha Wells' The Fall of Ile-Rien trilogy? It's AWESOME and also features such travel. :)

thank you for the rec! Reading it rn. Just what I needed for my trip on Saturday (though I might finish it before then). I'm not at the part where there's any inter-dimension travelling yet.
:D

Stories with robot protagonists. There's no shortage of robot villains and robot sidekicks, let's put more robots in the lead role!

If you're into comics you can take a look at Descender to see if it might be your thing. Sci-fi story with a kid robot protag.

I would like to read more stories about:

witches. wizards. magic. actual, medieval-ass esoteric magic. spirits. ghosts. friendly ghosts. creepy ghosts. hauntings. real, meaningful friendships. autumnal weather. fog. old wooden houses. old big houses. really just all kinds of old houses. rooms with lots of glass bottles and miscellaneous things in them. houses that have bare kitchens with whitewashed walls and a plain old metal teakettle. fog, did i mention fog. houses with greenhouses. all of those things

also, really meaningful, significant, emotive friendships

I really liked that show! Except for the parts where it was kind of bad, and the lead girl was really boring

STILL think they should have just made the version of it that was just about Ingrid and Madchen Amchik and ignored Freya entirely. really, ideally, they would have had Ingrid and Ingrid's gay friend and Madchen Amchik move to a small town in Maine where ingrid and her friend would work at a cute library and they'd also all solve supernatural mysteries together, but in a really cozy mystery kind of way, like Murder She Wrote with more spells and ghosts. unfortunately no one at Lifetime has ever responded to any of my emails on the subject.

More fantasy and steampunk that isn't set in western Europe or a thinly disguised western Europe. Don't get me wrong, I love that stuff! But variety is the spice of life and my GOD there is so much cool history out there to play with, writers. Ancient Egypt! Africa! China! Pre-colonial India!

Really cool Action, Sci-fi or Fantasy movies with characters who happen to have a gay love interest instead of the usual het romance. And it's a not a big thing in the plot.

I want sci-fi that's not about intergalactic war or big battles, but smaller stories. Like a detective story that just happens to be set in space.

Cops in space.

Melodrama in space.

There was an old webcomic I read about 8 years ago called A Miracle of Science. It's mostly about mad science, but framed as an old-school future noir and takes place in space as well as IIRC on Mars. Worth a look IMO.

Late to the party on this, but I'd really, really like to see more stories about brain uploading, mind transference, that sort of thing. It's a topic I see very little in serious sci-fi, and SOMA is doing a good job of putting a horror spin on it.

Have you read C. L. Moore's "No Woman Born"?
