I'd like to write a fic for a slash pairing but I'm stumped on inspiration. Does anyone have some good prompts that aren't set in modern day (preferably prompts that aren't too plot-heavy)?

Or does anyone have a good site that has imagine-your-OTP with prompts that aren't focused on modern-day stuff? (My fandom is fantasy not futuristic.)

A different fantasy? Your pairing in LotR. Your pairing as a Disney movie. Your pairing in How to Train Your Dragon.

Like, people have to share a room at an inn, rain-soaked, only one bath, lit by candle-light, etc etc?

Is it bad that that's where my mind automatically went?

Any kind of inn, really.

My mind sort of went, in visual aesthetic, to the inn scene in the Stardust movie.

I'm still not sure whether that movie was actually good, or I just like Claire Danes.

and as I cast my memory back there were a lot of... intensely dorky parts

I love that movie. It feels like a live action Disney princess movie to me. It's just fun like that.

Your example is more of what I'm looking for. (Thank you!) I would like to avoid an AU as I would like people to get a flavor of the canon (there's no fic for it at all).

If you think D&D, it's something along those lines. Adventure questing, medieval faux!European fairytale type of setting.

Traveling through the country, have to stop in a country house because of a storm... and it's haunted!!!

Everything should have cyberpunk AUs, except things that are already cyberpunk, and all of those should have space pirate AUs

Things that already have space pirates should have cozy mystery AUs where the characters solve mysteries in a delightfully picturesque rural town

Cozy mysteries should have AUs from Burt Reynolds movies

Imo all fandoms should have wrestling AUs, even the wrestling fandom. But that's just me.

Do you envision wrestling AUs as being kayfabe or behind the scenes?

Why not have both? Both is good. Like, Capt. Kirk and Spock are a face and heel respectively and in kayfabe they have a rivalry over emotion vs logic, but behind the scenes they are bffs. Alternatively, in a kayfabe fic, they are face and heel but they have to work as a tag team against Gorn and Kahn and they learn that emotion and logic are often needed to defeat even the greatest of enemies (and then they become bffs).

I don't even like AUs too much but I'd always be down for Space Pirates AU.

Oh, well, in that case...

The couple:
have to work together on some canon related mystery or defeat a big bad?
are trapped somewhere together?
meet-up accidentally looking for [quest item] and decide to work together?
place an ad for a quest partner and the other responds?
finds the other in dire straights (everything stolen by bandits!) and decides to help out?
both kidnapped by slavers, bounty hunters, whatever, and work together to escape?

On a trek to fetch something/someone (medicine/a super-special crystal/food/a prisoner/a healer/etc.) - can literally be set in any time period you wish.

Penal colony AU? You can either go historical or fantasy with it and it's not quite as restrictive as an all out prison AU.
