Are you a productive member society?

(Anonymous) 2015-09-30 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
I'm sure not.

Very much so.

I haven't murdered anyone, I pay my taxes, and am nice to cashiers. So...yes.

I like that last criterion you put in. It's very important.

It is!

Nominally.

Let's see, do I have a job? Yep. Pay my taxes and rent? Yep.

Think so.

No, I am simply one person, not a society of productive members. Not have I started such a society. You could, though!

Yes.

I have been at points. When I was doing my internships in law school I was. I'm out of work right now, so I don't really feel productive and probably won't until I get a job.

I used to be. Not so much now.

Less so right now since I'm on leave. But overall, I...guess so? I'm law-abiding, I have a job, and I give back to my community.

Re: Are you a productive member society?

(Anonymous) 2015-09-30 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
Based on all of the above, I'd say you're a definite YES, not 'I guess so.' Especially because this one -> "and I give back to my community" <- is huge. Good on ya!

You're on maternity leave, right?

People aren't kidding when they say having/raising* kids is one of the most important contributions to society you can make. I assure you you are being a very productive member of society even right now!

*not implying you'll be on leave indefinitely, but obviously pregnancy and childbirth and those first few weeks can be very tiring, so that part of it is what I'm specifically referring to here

Well...there are those who definitely disagree with that, heh. But thank you for saying so.

I have a job and I pay taxes.

On the other hand, my job is largely useless, and even at peak usefulness, all I'm doing is moderately improving the efficiency of a colossal corporate entity that doesn't do anything besides being a middleman and making certain transactions in the entertainment industry more efficient.

In other words, I'm a productive member of society according to a certain point of view, but I don't produce anything. All I do is slightly improve the revenue of a totally useless firm.

Yeah sure.

Re: Are you a productive member society?

(Anonymous) 2015-09-30 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe? I've got a job, I volunteer, pay my taxes and bills, and try to be nice to people. I don't have my own place though. God, I want my own place, but I'm saving up money to go back to school, so all I can do is dream about my blue castle.

I am on a pension, but I try to do my bit to keep the economy moving by spending the money I get, and like [personal profile] kaijinscendre said, I try too be nice to cashiers and the like.

I produced a beautiful, intelligent child that eveybody loves. I hope I don't mess her up too bad so the world can still benefit from her. Gotta count for something. Myself, I've been translating stuff so... maybe a little productive, because at least a few niche folks can now follow the media they like thanks to me? Never earned enough to pay taxes, though.

+1 producing humans, especially good ones. necessary work even if common!

translating is very kind.

naah don't worry morally about tax paying if you're dirt poor, i never have.

I don't have a job. Not my fault because I'm on disability but it does make me feel pretty useless and I'm scared of libertarians.
