How did this get started? People from 40 years old and down have had nothing but flexibility and options when it comes to everything from clothes to careers. Before that people did actually fight the battle of abandoning girdles and stockings and getting jobs outside those considered gender appropriate. (Outside of the WW2 era when women could be welders and pilots and so forth.)

LOL at the idea that anyone over 40 was "fighting to abandon girdles." We pretty much invented going underwear-free.

Girls a few years older than I were still wearing them in the mid '70s with their work clothes. So ... maths a bit rough, but it was a big deal going without.

People who were old enough to be working in the mid 70s sure as hell aren't in their 40s right now, anon.

I have no fucking clue, but if I had to guess it just kinda blossomed with the idea that unless you have all of these qualifiers on your "privilege" level, then you can't have a voice in any kind of discussion about rights and freedoms.

Which is completely horseshit, but it does lead people to adopt labels in order to be part of the oppressed crowd.

LOL! Oh honey, your math is way off. Someone who is, for example, 45, would've been born in 1970. By the time they were 13 (and perhaps on the cusp of needing a "girdle", which BTW young people didn't wear at the time), it was 1983. Women were still wearing stockings, all right... torn fishnets to match their fingerless gloves so they could look like Madonna or Cyndi Lauper. LOL!
