Why those particular ages? Just curious about the numbers.

I don't know about fandom in general, but f!s seems to have quite a few fans that are older then that. (A lot of fans grew up in fandom and never left. I think there are probably more middle-aged+ members of fandom then we realize.)

Yup, general consensus from the trolls I've received seems to be that, once you're out of college, you need to focus on Your Real Job and stop these silly hobbies that may involve children (see: every sports anime, so shipping there means you're automatically a pedo!).

Which, of course, is stupid, because who exactly do those people think are mostly making those cartoons/games/shows that children and teenagers enjoy?

I've had messages like that. I don't think they were even trolling! They just couldn't imagine anyone over 25 being in fandom and were appalled at the very concept.
