+1

Why put a liquid in an unstable container?
I already struggle to pour things out of cartons.

Someone told me it was so bathe milk would stay good longer. There are three smaller bags in the large, 4L bag. Once you open milk you're supposed to use it within... 5 days? Something like that. This way people who don't drink so much can buy in bulk.

Also: only the 4L, and only (that I know of) in Ontario. BC, Alberta, and Nova Scotia all have jugs.

I think bath milk is also a thing though? I can't say I like the idea of sitting in a tub full of slimy feeling dairy products, but whatever.

Ohhh. Okay. So it's a portion thing?

Nope. Still weird.
Sorry, Canada!

*nods* Supposed to be good for the skin. And probably cheaper/easier to find than the blood of virgins ;)

I think so. It's the only thing I've heard that makes sense.

Totally agree. I was so happy to see jugs when I went to the grocery store for the first time after my move!

Someone introduced the concept to us on a mostly-American mailing list ages and ages ago. The phrase "that's wrong like milk in a bag is wrong" was a standard expression of bewildered disapproval for years after that.

I'm using that if you don't mind.

I wish I could remember who originated it to give them credit, but I think we can call it 'released into the wild' at this point.

Excuse you that is an offensive stereotype. Not all Canadians have milk in bags.

(actually you can't really find bagged milk at all where I'm from anymore, so sad)

I always forget that's a Canadian thing since I'm American and we had milk in bags with our elementary school snacks and lunches when I was little.

You must in one of the secretly Canadian enclaves of America, whereas I am apparently existing in an American piece of Canada. Like, there was some sort of time-space shift and we exist on the wrong planes of existence. It's the only explanation!

That, or our respective milk shipments have just been wildly misdirected all these years...
