Normal DOMS feels basically like your muscles are sore when you attempt to flex or stretch them. An injury will tend to cramp or spasm or feel very intensely or continuously painful.

When you're in the gym and you feel yourself starting to fail at doing a lift, put it down and walk away. Don't listen to the people who tell you to push through the pain, because that is a very good way to injure yourself when you're just starting out.

Maybe take the earbuds out and try to pay more attention to what your body is telling you, at least for the first few workouts.

Okay, this makes sense. The rest of my body feels more like the soreness at flexing pain. The back was definitely spasming and constant pain today.

I'm working out with my dad, and I did tell him I'm probably taking tomorrow off. Or at least I'll skip the lower back machines.

I would take a day or two off and recover. Contrary to what gym bros might claim, muscle groups aren't easily isolated... so even trying to do other activities might result in exacerbating any injury you might have.
