I assume the same thing, OP. Aside from like... Case, I've read his fic. But he's such a unicorn. Maybe I've run into one other cis guy who writes fic, ever? I think that guy wrote entirely gen.

On the other hand, there's a lot of transmen in fandom. Back when I was into P4, whoa, lots of transmen came onboard for the Naoto fic. In some fandoms I'd definitely say a given guy is more likely to be trans than cis.

When I think male-written fanfiction, I think of this lengthy, terrible Soul Caliber fic I once ran into where the main dude basically fucks every chick in the game. I saw it and I was like, "whoa, yeah, I highly doubt any woman wrote this." And apparently I was right, ha.

I've met several cis men in fandom, most of them on the fanart side rather than the fanfic, but it's true, there were probably more transmen.

If the last five men I've met in a fandom are transmen, I do have a tendency to assume the next one I meet is also going to be one as well. But it's not invariable. In some fandoms (Cowboy Bebop for instance) most of the men seemed to be cis. Quite a few in the werewolf corner of Harry Potter as well.
