I sometimes feel awkward at the back of my mind when I read fic or follow fandoms of things I watched with any family members.
(But nowhere near awkward enough to stop!)
None are fannish (afaik), but some like media that have famous fandoms (e.g., Trek). It’s not about those, we don’t have those in common. And I’m not big on smutfic, so it’s not to do with that.
I don’t care if it was with friends who aren’t fannish. Family is just different.

Well, it doesn't sound like you have much to be 'ashamed' of (not that there's much one should be ashamed of in fandom, unless you're harassing people or something) so I don't fully understand this, but you can't help how you feel.

I've been in fandoms for things my family liked too, but I guess the difference is that my family aren't all that enthusiastic about those things. They watch or play them casually and don't dwell on them like I do. (Which is a perfectly normal way to be, but obviously makes our experiences quite different.)

Still, as long as it isn't stopping you from enjoying yourself that's good. (A lot of non-fandom people seem to have more issue with shipping and smutfic then the rest anyway. Like, again, though there's absolutely nothing wrong with porn I would be a hell of a lot more embarrassed if someone saw the smutfic I've bookmarked then the discussions on message boards, lol.)
