I am the same!

I have no idea why or how... though I think the lack of face-to-face in real life relationships was a big motivator, but now that I've been a part of (sorry, now that I'm in) a committed relationship, I still love shipping and ships and feel so empty without an OTP.

Best of luck finding a pairing that suits you!

I would recommend you pick something with an active/alive fandom because it's much easier to sustain a ship with new source material. I'm forever amazed at how people can singlehandedly populate a ship with fanart/fanfic (especially for dead series) while shouting into the void. ;_;

I'm in exactly the same boat, OP. I've gone back to old fandoms in the hopes of recapturing some of the magic but I'd love something new.

Everyone enjoys fandom differently.

I have to say it's the weirdest thing to ship something like burning and NOT want to write/read fic for it after canon. Like, because it was covered that well in canon.

But I am a shipper through and through and won't have the above pairing as an OTP because I like ships I can wrestle with.

i found you can't go searching for an otp, they come to you when you least expect it.

i've been in fandom so long shipping things has just become a part of my life in this weird way. and for a while there nothing was hitting the mark and i was just looking for something to read but it wasn't working for me. it's such a strange feeling. but i couldn't force myself to like things i didn't. i just had to wait it out until i came across something that sparked.

if it's pathetic then we can be pathetic together.

If that's what you like about fandom, then no, I don't see it as pathetic. (Might as well enjoy yourself, right?)

Maybe you should find a series that seems like something you would care for and go into it open to the idea of new ships?

That's usually what I do anyway, but then again I ship in basically anything and everything so I never have trouble finding new pairings.

If you want to get into a fandom specifically for the ship, then you should tell us what kind of pairings you go for. Someone might be able to suggest a series.

I can't force ships on myself, I either like it that way or I don't, so when I'm in a 'no new ship' rut I tend to go look at old ships instead for a bit of nostalgia feels(and it usually works which is nice).

But you should enjoy yourself in fandom whatever way works for you.

Holy shit, someone else still ships this?! I wish I could muster up inspiration to write fic for it, because I've been shipping it low-key for over ten years. :P
