Is this episode to TNG as Threshold is to Voyager? I just had this thought... hmm.

Yeah, probably. Angel One probably isn't the worst TNG ep (Code Of Honor) but it's a much better thematic fit with Threshold probably.

Man s1 of TNG is so bad.

I legit love Threshold and, to a lesser extent, Angel One though.

Not just season one episodes. There's the season 7 episode "Genesis", which comes to mind when people mention Threshold. Brannon Braga wrote Genesis and made the teleplay for Threshold. They're both YouFailBiologyForver.

Tom Paris turns in a salamander while crying about his shit childhood after breaking the warp barrier. Then he kidnaps Janeway, turns her into a salamander, and they have three salamander children.

Fun fact: they made a Threshold figure of Paris in mid transformation, complete with his three salamander children, AND I BOUGHG IT BECAUSE MY LOVE OF THREAHOLD IS THAT GREAT.

It's pretty awesome tbh, but I think a big portion of my love comes from my love of the woobie to end all woobies, Tom Paris. He's just so wonderfully pathetic, especially in this episode. There's a part where he reminisces about his teenage bedroom and mentions he mostly spent his time crying in there. I really love Tom Paris, let me tell you.
