Re: Things that are annoying you right now

I accused you of trolling because I know you and you troll all the time, not because of your opinions. Like come on, don't play, you absolutely troll about politics from time to time - it's not crazy you would do it in this situation. If you really say you weren't trolling I believe you. But it was specifically coming from who you are, not who you were saying.

Second, I was not making a point about gun control. I was not saying that my feelings meant that gun control was obviously right. My point was simply that people who are advocating gun control - right or wrong - are absolutely sincere. They are not scoring political points. And it is an insult to them to imply that they are insincere and using the issue purely for selfish reasons. It was dead wrong of you to say that.

I think there is a real debate that needs to be had about gun control, & I think the context of that conversation a lot of your points have real validity. I'm not a hardliner on this - I really do respect the feelings of gun owners. I think we need to find a way to reduce the amount of times that things like this happen, and I think laws about gun control are probably an indispensable part of doing that, but we also need to deal with the people who actually own guns most of whom are different.

But at the end of the day that's not the point that I was making in any regard. The point that I was making was, simply, that people who are talking about gun control are not scoring political points. You may disagree with them but it is absolutely a sincere reaction and it is absolutely wrong to insult them by saying that they're being hypocritical or lying about it. It is absolutely, absolutely wrong.

If you pay attention, you'll notice I have limits. I don't encourage suicide and post the suicide hotline number whenever I see a post from someone feeling suicidal. I don't troll about abortion. And I don't troll about murders. Poly tics, butt hurtedness, that's funny. Suicide? Murder? Not so much.

"I think there is a real debate that needs to be had about gun control..."

That has to happen the day of the tragedy. And has to involve people on the internet name calling, as happened in the other thread. And has to involve protesters blaming the NRA.

You say your thoughts and feelings concerning the issue are genuine. I believe you. What I don't believe is that large portions of the people who do those things I listed above have any honor for me to impugn.

That has to happen the day of the tragedy.

Tragically long experience has shown that it will not happen at any other time.

And has to involve people on the internet name calling, as happened in the other thread.

I don't agree with people doing it. I think it's an expression of real feeling and inevitable, but I don't agree with it.

And has to involve protesters blaming the NRA.

Well, I mean, for God's sake, we've had how many years of the NRA virulently rejecting even any discussion of the idea of greater gun controls. It's not hard to reach a certain conclusion about the role it plays in our national political process.

You say your thoughts and feelings concerning the issue are genuine. I believe you. What I don't believe is that large portions of the people who do those things I listed above have any honor for me to impugn.

As for honor, I think some of them have it; perhaps some of them do not. I think our political process is broken and generally awful. But I don't think that on the whole the opposition to gun control is dishonorable. I don't think it is anything dishonorable in itself. And I maintain that your reaction to it went much further than could possibly be justified, I assume out of some kind of emotional reaction, but still unjustifiable.

i don't think owning a gun is honorable. the thing is 'rhythm' with responsibility.

you know that thing can go on with a trigger.
