PUBES OBSESSION

(Anonymous) 2015-10-02 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
now that I have your attention...

are you in the path of Joaquin? Are you gonna be okay? I'm hearing it might veer into the ocean, but you still gonna get a hella load of water. Keep safe folks.

What's the worst weather you've ever been caught in?

We're not directly in the path, but we're going to get some flooding.

Once there was a snowstorm on Halloween that hit us with 2-3 feet of snow. The leaves were still on the trees, so the trees started collapsing onto powerlines. No power for 2 weeks, which meant no heat and no water.

Good god. I had a lot of Halloweens back where I used to live where the kids had to wear snow coats over their costumes, but nothing full-on like that.

I thought this said "are you a fan of Joaquin?" And I was like "Phoenix? Is he relevant?"

But no, not anywhere near. Good luck to those who are, though.

Tornadoes, I guess. Never directly hit or anything, but woken up in the middle of night to go into the basement enough that I think it counts.

I sometimes forget the rest of the world doesn't have them.

I live in the Northeast so I've had several hurricanes, several Nor'easters, blizzards, tornado threats, severe summer storms.

The worst in memory was the 3 feet of snow we got when I was a kid and everything was shut down for two weeks. My mom wouldn't let us out of the house because the snow was taller than us.

We're probably going to get metric assbuckets of rain where I am, but not much else.

I missed a tornado once by like a couple of hours. Smashed my neighborhood when I was a kid; our house was mostly okay but we found new problems cropping up over the next fifteen years until we moved and had the place demo'd.

Actually caught in - I heard the weather siren one summer just a couple of years back and saw a line of storms coming. Called my weather-obsessed Dad just up the street who was like 'yeah, I looked at the weather map, we're not getting much.'

Didn't believe him. Sat down for a few anyway, watching the news.

Ten minutes later the line of storms I see on the horizon is not only black and green, but as I look at the sky I'm seeing a mess of birds of all types and sizes - no organized flock, is what I'm saying - just getting the *fuck* out of Dodge. I kinda whispered 'okay!' in this really startled voice, threw my cat into one bathroom and shut the door, grabbed the cordless phone and a blanket, locked myself in the other bathroom, and listened to the wind do this thing where if I'd recorded it I probably could have sold it to a foley guy for a horror studio.

While the wind is screaming fit to murder firstborns, the phone rings in my hand. It's my partner, gaily telling me that there's sirens up where he works and apparently there's a tornado about ten miles away. I scream into the phone, terrified, "WELL THERE'S ONE IN OUR BACKYARD" and kinda hung up on him.

The actual tornado literally skipped over our neighborhood only to fuck shit up down the road. We were without power about a day and a half.

I don't listen to my dad about weather anymore.

It might've terrified you, but it also gave you a terrific story.

I've never seen anything like those birds before or since. It was like a mess of mourning doves and chickadees and some other local little guys and then just like a couple BIG ASS CROWS and I swear I saw a small falcon and some other shit, and they were just truckin' a beeline away from the pure black sky.

Collective avian nope.

I took the hint.

A wise move on your part. When the zombie apocalypse comes I want to be on your team.

Yep, that's literally what the storm I escaped in my car on the ass end of Montana looked like. Massive purple/green/black WALL of cloud, birds noping on out.

Only difference is I wouldn't have had anywhere to get to if I had to stop and get somewhere.

I'm in Tennessee and we're going to get a ton of rain where I am (and despite the flash flood alerts and gale winds tomorrow's college football game will go on as planned) but nothing hurricane-level. And I live on a huge hill, so any flash flooding should just roll away from me.

Since I used to live on the coast I got a lot of hurricane blowback but never anything horrible - just lots of high winds and power outages.

I didn't immediately realize that you were talking about a hurricane, and briefly thought that this was a strange religious recruitment post. I was waiting to hear who Joaquin was and what we must do to be properly in His path. In my defense, I did mention my sleep deprivation in another comment.

I used to live in Virginia Beach. When I was a mini-me we got a hurricane that caused roof damage. When I was a preteen we had a hurricane while I was at school. They wouldn't let me call my mom to have her come get me, so I walked through the eye of a low level hurricane. (Fuck you too, Middle School.) If it's a category three or below I'm not impressed.

I'm in the South Carolina Upstate. We're supposed to get drenched and emergency services are out in full force, but we're not in the path of the hurricane.

Joaquin's been good about his pubes, but goddamn if he won't stop blowing his load everywhere. He's even got his friend in the act, and they've been glazing us up and down for the past week.

He's such a prick.

lol'd at your subject line.

also, uh...really bad thunderstorms I guess. Dealt with some short-term power outages (longest was maybe 3 days that I've ever experienced? maybe only 2?) and tornado scares, but I personally have never been in any real danger from the weather.

I remember distinctly being in 6th grade and having a tornado alarm that scared me because my little siblings, both still in elementary school, were supposed to be getting on the bus at that time. (of course they didn't, they held the buses until it blew over, which I learned later.) the actual tornado hit a different part of town and leveled some buildings including a church with a daycare with small kids in it. amazingly, nobody was hurt! (that's why you go to the basement, kids!)

Almost got caught in a twister as I was driving out of Montana. True story. I was on the highway too, so I would have had nowhere to go if anything had touched down near my car.

I sped as fast as possible through it and came out into the most gloriously awesome blood red sunset I have ever seen in my entire life.
