After several harassment incidents and one stalker, I no longer play multiplayer online games at all. And there's a reason why most of the female players are pretending to be male.

Can I ask what games/platforms? I'm not going to tell you you could have avoided it or should have been playing something else or anything like that, I'm actually just curious because I used to read a lot more about this than I have recently and it seemed to be concentrated in specific areas. also, some people really suck. :(

I'm so sorry to hear that.

I always pretended to be male as well, and then just gave up entirely on online multiplayer games. I didn't get any direct hassle, but the atmosphere was so ugh. Some guys would say all kinds of shit about women, and though they were a minority the other guys rarely told them that they were out of order, so the comments just hung there unchallenged, like poison. There becomes a critical mass at which it's no longer fun.

Good luck with your local play.
