Re: PLS HELP: HOW DO I PROTECT BB BIRDS FROM FERAL CATS

I'm a bit of a birdo but not an expert. Hmm, I do know that if those birds built a nest there in the first place, near foot traffic, dogs, etc, that they're likely to be pretty tolerant of change/movement. Since they pair for life, there's always going to be one on the lookout for predators - and they're used to defending their nests. They are notorious for evicting other birds from their nests and not afraid to use their beaks and screech - I think they've got a pretty good chance against cats. I've seen birds harass much larger animals before away from their nests before. So it might not be necessary to put up some wire? Though I think if you do that the birds are likely to tolerate it ok, along with the foot traffic already when they decided to nest. (They may have a go at you if you go too close!) Indian Myna nests are notorious for harbouring diseases (also their presence reduces native bird diversity), but nesting birds are so cute! And the eggs are a beautiful blue.

myna's pair for life?! oh man now I'm even more worried for them. at least, i think it is a myna. I was having a peek and she flew off.

I know I'm so divided! They're introduced but damnit I want to watch baby birds grow!

and yeah I can't work out if a nest at my front door is really really stupid or really really smart (feral cats less likely to go there? Maybe???)
