There is no wrong way of loving Carmilla. Believe that.

I don't think you're wrong.

I don't actually like Carm herself that much.

I wouldn't like her much in rl, but she is definitely the kind of character that I enjoy shipping.

Also it should be said that she is real hot, but that's true of literally every single character on the show

What is this about?

(Anonymous) 2015-10-03 08:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Carmilla is a web series adapting the novel of the same name by J Sheridan Le Fanu & it is about lesbian vampires

I actually find Laura to be rather annoying.

LaFontaine is the best.

(Anonymous) 2015-10-03 08:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I think all sensible people can agree that Laf is the best, tbh

All in favor of declaring LaFontaine the official Best Pony raise your hands.

I didn't mind Laura in season 1 but she wasn't my favorite even though she's the narrator/protagonist but season 2 has really turned me off of her.

LaFontaine and JP have been my favorites both seasons.

With Laura, the actor always seems so over-rehearsed that it's hard for me to appreciate the character.

(Anonymous) 2015-10-03 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I feel like this season, all people did was complain when the episode didn't have Carmilla front and centre every single second. God forbid there be an actual storyline outside 'Hollstein'.

And the reaction to Danny was kinda insane.

Omg, yes. I'm glad to see this secret! I'm definitely doing this fandom wrong too because I'm usually all about slash and femslash ships but in a show that has tons of canon and plausible fanon ships for those? yeah, somehow this HAD to be the rare fandom where my otp is het (zeta society) and now I feel like I'm missing the point somehow.

I don't dislike Carmilla/Laura at all but I too care about all the other plot stuff more.

(Anonymous) 2015-10-03 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I ship CarmLaura but I find myself confused that the fans are so overwhelmingly obsessed with it, to the point of being frothy and aggressive about it/focusing on CarmLaura with such an intense focus. I've avoided the shipping parts of fandom recently (with very few exceptions) so I suppose I'm not used to being in such a ship-heavy fandom.

(Anonymous) 2015-10-04 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
I think it's also specifically an f/f thing in the sense that like... I don't know, but my sense is that whether a ship is canon matters wayyyyyy more on the femslash side of fandom than in the slash side, and I think that one of the reasons Carmilla is so popular is that it was so immediately appealing to and for people like fandom, and so there's a very visceral / emotional response to it and people really feeling like there's something Special and Meaningful about the relationship between Carm & Laura

which isn't a bad thing to be clear

Yeah but it's INSANE. As in people saying the couple having trouble is ~problematic~ how dare a canon gay relationship not be all sunshine and rainbows

(Anonymous) 2015-10-04 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
Oh sure the fandom's insane but like... I don't know, I think there are scales of bad, and I think it's coming from a place that's basically understandable, and it's hard for me to get super mad about it.

I don't know maybe that's weird.

Understandable isn't the same as healthy.

Demanding more queer media but then demanding that media be written in such a way that it's of lower quality isn't a good thing. You need conflict for a good story. You want your precious ship to be the center of the story? Okay. It's gonna need conflict.

I'm saying that as someone who thinks representation is vital and knows her life would have been much improved if there'd been more earlier.

(Anonymous) 2015-10-04 08:16 am (UTC)(link)
Sure sure. I'm not saying it's a correct attitude or ultimately healthy. Just, I can understand it, and I'm not mad at it, especially since I'm not really trying to get down in the trenches and fight it out with anyone to start with. Ultimately it's because it does mean so much to people & I think that's neat even if it takes people to some dumb places.

(Anonymous) 2015-10-04 08:01 am (UTC)(link)
Because we don't have much that isn't moe moe schoolgirls or oversexualized stuff for straight men that's uncomfortable to most lesbians

(Anonymous) 2015-10-04 08:14 am (UTC)(link)
Like I say I'm not mad about it, & yeah there are certainly some pretty obvious guesses about why it happens the way it does

I'm just sayin'
chardmonster: (Default)

That's valid!

[personal profile] chardmonster 2015-10-04 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
The fandom's a bit nuts about the main ship. It's refreshing to see someone into something besides the hot leads kissing.
