This is very sweet. Honestly, if I were her, I don't think I'd care very much - and it's completely understandable that you're fuzzy on the details of your first interactions, considering the circumstances - but of course it's your choice. The important part is that you've gained a great friend <33

No big deal as far as I can see. Your friendship grew to something beyond the fannish interest that brought you together, and I don't how it would make a difference if you remember every detail of her contribution to fandom or nothing at all. From the sound of it, your friendship was more about your shared personal issues than fandom anyway, so why would it matter if your memory of the fandom is fuzzy?

TL;DR: it doesn't matter how you met; what matters is how you came to care about each other.

I doubt she would judge you harshly for not being able to remember everything about your meeting. The fact that you two have each other is the important part. People aren't perfect, our memories aren't always going to be totally reliable, so there's no reason you should blame yourself for this.

Do you think it'll ever become an issue between the two of you? I'm out of fandom now but am still RL friends with a couple of people... I can't even remember which fandom we actually met in at this point.

Eh, minus the BNF status I had a similar situation. I brought it up to her awhile ago while we were laughing about fandom shenanigans of past. It's kind of a funny story really, not offensive or anything in the least!

Does your friend have more than one username? Then it'd be easy, just say you don't remember which username she's using. I never remember my friends' email addy and they don't care; they'd just tell me.
