Fan Theories

What are your favorite (or, least favorite) fan theories in your fandom(s)?

Steven Universe

I'm just going to link this, because it needs a full post to do it justice. It fits so well from a thematic perspective. http://www.beachcitybugle.com/2015/09/fan-theory-diamonds-are-fusions.html

It's not my fandom, but I've seen floating around in various spaces that after her family dies, Susan Pevensie becomes obsessed with children, purity, and alternate universes, and ends up in the Golden Compass universe where she becomes Mrs. Coulter. I really love that idea.

...this makes a weird amount of messed up sense.

AYRT

RIGHT?!?! I mean, I think it's partially because Narnia and Golden Compass are like mirror images of each other when it comes to religion so it all fits nicely.

I like the one where Susan works with Merry Poppins instead and Poppins becomes her mentor.

Yours makes a nice creepy AU.

Least favorite? All of them, for all fandoms.

I'm sick of the shrillness of the fan-theorists who no longer are content to explore fan theories, but now demand that they be made canon and that everyone must religiously agree with them. I just want them to all fuck off.

+1
Especially if theory came from a tumblrite.

I had a rather baseless theory where Assassin's Creed Syndicate was going to be the theme of an upcoming Thorpe Park ride codenamed WC16. However the somewhat unsettling teaser video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QQmSt5765_w) screwed that up. But considering both had victorian and mind warping themes it was quite plausible.

There's an episode of Haven in which an archaeologist in a coma, played by Nolan North, suddenly finds himself one of only two people in the town not in a coma. The other person, played by Emily Rose, has to figure out why this is and how to reverse it before a lot of people die. The two of them end up striking up a brief but cute friendship before he returns to his coma. There is a fun headcanon that the Uncharted series is a dream he's having where he gets to go on globe-hopping treasure hunts with this great woman he only got to meet briefly during his waking life.

That Loki planned to get captured and sent back to Asgard from the very beginning.

Agreed. If only for the fact that if Loki is even half as smart and cunning as people keep saying he is, that whole plan was simply too damn dumb. In reality, it's probably just bad writing. But I still choose to believe it was all intentional (and I have the theory that Hiddleston actually played the role in a way that undermines that theory).

I always thought that wasn't a serious theory but an attempt to make sense out of bad writing?

My favorite is the theory that Dragon Age and Mass Effect take place in the same universe. Thedas is a forgotten backwater colony. Magic is biotics. There's a Krogan head on someone's wall in DA:I! It's probably just an easter egg, but I choose to believe.

I want this to work so bad but I keep coming up with more and more questions.

Movie canon only and unfortunately not quite possible looking at the last one but I really liked the theory of blind Thranduil. Or at least blind in one eye, considering the state if his face.

And I really like that the fan theory that Joseph survived the main game in The Evil Within was proven to be true!

I like the fan theory that the Homeworld Gems are at war with some other faction. This is why they're making the forced fusion experiments and created the cluster.

I always really loved both the Squall is Dead and Ultimecia is Rinoa theories in Final Fantasy VIII, though more as thought experiments than believing them to be canon. I find them both really interesting, and they do fill in some gaps left by the unfortunately-paced storytelling quite nicely.
