Podcast recs?

(Anonymous) 2015-10-04 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm going on a trip soon and I need something to distract myself. Any recs? I'm a fan of Grace's Not Too Deep podcast and of Kevin Smith's podcasts, for reference.

I'm not familiar with those two. What genre? Comedy, knowledge, stories, horror, news, a combination of some of those.

Wow I had no idea I had so many options to choose from [/naive]. Comedy and knowledge mostly, but I'm curious about stories now too!

I'd probably scroll through wehatemovies and pick some from movies i'm familiar with. I got a huge kick out of their Phantom Menace spiel.

DA

I looked over that and they kind of lost me when I saw they listed The Core

That movie is a masterpiece -- the writing is an intentional parody

For knowledge/history, I'd really recommend Dan Carlin's Hardcore History podcast, though it can be military-history heavy.

I like Dan's Common Sense podcast as well

I'd also recommend BBC's History Extra podcast

The Times Past Podast
https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/times-past-podcast/id219978873?mt=2

Is great for old radio shows -- I really adore them. I listed to a lovely play the other day.

Intelligence Squared (regular and US debates) is really interesting if you like to listen to Oxford-style debates

I also like the Carnegie Council Audio Podcast -- they discuss a variety of ethical issues (usually with people looking to promote a book they've written on a certain topic). The author gives an overview and then there's Q & A
