It's really awful, but I have been that friend. EDs make you do horrible and often embarrassing things. Something that would have helped me back then was if the food was clearly labeled or if there was a sign or something reminding me in the moment not to do it. It sounds stupid, but it's little things that can break you out of the sort of ED spell.

I'm sorry you have to deal with this. I still to this day feel guilty of my own past food stealing. :(

I'm sorry to hear that too :( That's how I feel about the labels, that they could be a reminder for the person to break them out of that "moment", however that goes down. I know it's not something anyone would want to do to someone they're living with. And now I feel like I'm just being all, "Why is this happening to meeeee?" when I should be taking a more proactive role in getting my roommate some help, like the other anons are suggesting.

Oh I think it's totally justified to be miffed about this! I mean, in the end it's not really your responsibility to get this person help or anything. Talk to them about it, help workout what works for the household, but if they won't admit it's a problem...well they have to come to that realization on their own, it's not on your head. I know I never would have admitted to needing help until I was ready.

I hope the labels help both of you!

I lived with my partner's mother for a while, who is in denial about her food intake. Thing is, even if things were labelled, she'd nibble away at it over time. I ended up referring to her as "the mice". :/
