Agreed. I'm going to go one further and say a lot of the people on tumblr currently labelling themselves as "aro" and "grey ace" and "lithromantic" and all of that are probably just straight teenagers looking for an identity.

Doubly so for anyone labelling themselves as "sapiosexual."

I honestly wonder if the sheer amount of ace stuff is some sort of blowback against how sexualized things can sometimes get for teens early on. Like maybe it's more relaxing to just sort of emotionally and mentally shut down all the sexual stuff, leading to younger people feeling like they might be ace.

Like a new version of the college lesbian.

AYRT
that makes a lot of sense, actually. especially for people who mature sexually later in life (or who dislike the pressure that's put on them - American teen culture in general i feel hit a peak of sexualization in the 90s/00s) - if what's being portrayed is "ALL THE PEOPLE HAVING SEX ALL THE TIME" and you don't fit that (inaccurate) portrayal - you might start to think "maybe i'm not normal"

Which is a shame, because the word "lithromantic" just sounds cool.
