What changes though, apart from social approval?

I lost a lot of weight recently from illness and pregnancy, and all I got was a bunch of social approval, an absence of social disapproval, and a sudden ability to fit into an arbitrary "mainstream" size range. That feels pretty good, not gonna lie, but it has nothing to do with my health or personal feelings of attractiveness as an older lesbian woman, and everything to do with conforming to social attitudes.

I've lost 70 pounds recently and my health has improved greatly. I can do things like: walk up a long flight of stairs without getting out of breath, squat for longer than a couple seconds without my knees feeling like shit, I can fit in between tight spaces, I can lift more at work, I am less stressed, I eat less so save money, my blood pressure has gone down, I have more energy, and that isn't even including all the long term benefits studies have found.

That's great for you! What I find a problem is when people say this is universal. It's totally possible to be fat and fit, even though most people who are fat are not fit and most fit people are not fat.
