I agree with both your statements.

Fiction =/= Reality And fiction is a great place to indulge non-socially-acceptable interests. Just as long as you don't cross the reality line, you're good.

While I completely understand the history of blackface and why it's super offensive, if people can paint themselves blue to cosplay Demona from "Gargoyles", why not darken your skin if you're, say, lily white and want to cosplay as Korra?

"while I completely understand (read: don't) why being a fictional blue person isn't the same as darkening yourself to be another race, why is one okay and the other isn't??"
