Huh, I have this and I didn't even realise it. I don't generally mind when the Significant Eye Contact occurs between Generic Film Protagonist and the only named female in the movie, but when it starts happening in a TV show, I cringe.
Maybe it's partly because, if the romance subplot in a movie is shit, I only have to put up with it for two hours? Whereas, if I keep watching the TV show, it could keep going for... years. Literal goddamn years.
