Thirded. And if only because, dude, Amadeus is already pure myth and fantasy--the idea that Salieri murdered Mozart or even wanted to is entirely apocryphal. In fact, I don't even know that that there's any historical evidence that Salieri was jealous of Mozart or considered him a rival at all. It's already a purely made-up story, Romantics inventing exciting legends about their hero and his tragic death.

Actually, Salieri did go crazy at the end of his life and "confessed" that he murdered Mozart (but it was probably just him being crazy). It's also not too far of a stretch to believe that one musician would be jealous of the most insanely talented musician of the time. But, other than Salieri's confession, I don't think there's much else linking them. Still, this is one of my favorite movies.

Was that the part of it that was real? Aw, I've probably had too many teachers/read too many books that were determined to punch holes in the 'cult of genius' and by association all the grand myths that have arisen around geniuses--I love that movie/play too, but that's why I always feel guilty admitting it. XD Same goes for 'My Architect' and for 'Impromptu'--some book I found in the library once was just about the whole history of retellings of the romance of Chopin and George Sand (and how much of the story was made up or added to with every one :().

Actually Salieri did know Mozart when they were both younger, but not in the context it is represented in the movie. incidentally, he confessed to killing Haydn as well. he was just a loon, but Syphillis'll do that to ya.

oh! and Mozart didn't like his father. thats the part that kinda made me mad about the movie.
