Yeah, the "knife/car" argument is so stupid and incomparable. Yes, people have been murdered by cars and knives.

But that's not what they were invented for! They have plenty of non-violent uses, and cars were designed to get people from place to place.

Guns, on the other hand? Kind of no room for interpretation as to their use. Their sole purpose is to injure/kill animals and people. That's it. Nothing else. There is nothing non-violent about them.

Therefore, logic would dictate that yeah, they probably should be handled and regulated a wee bit differently than a car or knife.

Well going by what I'm learning about Americans recently, they don't even handle them as carefully as they do cars.

People leave guns loaded and not locked away, but you wouldn't leave a car unlocked with the keys in the ignition. Someone might drive off in it. Why aren't people worried about someone using the gun?

So dumb.

This is a very good point. And a really good question. I honestly don't know how to explain the backwards logic of that.

I don't keep my guns locked up, except to the extent that they're inside my house, which is locked, and in non-obvious locations. If any kids are going to be visiting my place, the guns get locked up in more remote locations.

I mean. I guess if your home security is really good and you live alone and never have visitors, it's kind of the same as locking them up. Maybe.

Wouldn't work at my place. People drop by unannounced a lot. There are sometimes drunk people doing weird things like going through my bathroom cupboard and spilling my cotton buds everywhere and pretending it didn't happen. I don't like to think about what could happen if they found a gun while they were snooping.

Out of curiosity, do you keep it loaded?

"... spilling my cotton buds everywhere and pretending it didn't happen."

*snorfles*

That just strikes me as so...absurdist and silly and funny. :)

It was such a weird thing to find. They were everywhere!

The weirdest part was, they'd grabbed a bunch of them, I'm assuming out of the sink because they were a little damp, and stuffed them back in the jar and put it back on the shelf.

LIKE I WOULD NOT NOTICE.

Nobody owned up to it either.

No worries!

Sometimes it still bothers me that I never found out which person did it.
I am still friends with all of them, and one of them is some sort of secret cotton bud fetishist.

That's still something, at least. Even if someone doesn't have a specific safe or cabinet or whatever to keep their guns in, as long as they know to put them somewhere where nobody they don't want stumbling upon them can do so, that's still better than just leaving them lying wherever.
