Not that I disagree, but you didn't actually say why you are wary - just a reason why you aren't.

I get the pedo thing, but what's the other reason?

My thoughts as well. I mostly see this kind of female inspiration line up on tumblr where they are young girls.

I don't think people are pedos for liking this trope, but I find it irritating that so many "badass" female characters ARE little girls, in media not aimed at children. How many "badass" male characters are little boys, outside of children's media? Of course, there are quite a few adult women too, but it seems like a female character is just as likely to be a little girl as an adult, where as males are almost always adults.

Maybe people just like the element of "not what you'd expect" because little girls are supposed to be sweet and helpless, but sometimes I get the feeling that people consider adult women boring, or they think that you can't have an adult female character without having romance, sexual tension, or whatever with the main male character so to avoid that stuff they make their female character a little girl.

I agree with this.

A lot of canons have teenage boys as heroes, though. Maybe not little boys, but still not exactly adults. The nerdy, pimply, skinny teenage boy who becomes badass (Spiderman is a prime example) is as much a trope as the badass little girl.

I think it's a combination of "not what you'd expect" and the fact that an audience loves an underdog. Since little girls are stereotyped to be the weakest, even more so then women, people are more likely to route for them as a badass hero character because of course they are the little guy in any story you come across.

Yeah, I think it's mostly this. The stereotypical victim is now the one kicking ass, that sort of thing. Little boys have featured as protagonists in adventure stories since forever so that's not as interesting.

Badass girls are part of the tomboy trope too, before they grow up into their womanly ways. Part of the appeal, very different from with badass boys, is that it's so often cast, or fanned as, a kind of a temporary innocent thing.

Well we've seen Toph grown up and she's still very much Toph. Do people really picture these kinds of character growing up to mold into a 'womanly role'? Because I never have.

I wish people would stop using 'pedo' when they mean something else. A pedophile is someone who sees pre pubescent children as potential sex partners. Liking or admiring a plucky child protagonist is not being a 'pedo'.

Um, I think in this secret, the OP actually is implying pedophiliac attraction.

The OP is talking about people who like young female characters for sexual reasons. It's exactly the right word.

That's not what the secret says. They are wary for undisclosed reasons of people who like badass girls. The 'they might be pedos' was a disclaimer.

I guess I can relate, I hate the part of ASOIAF/GOT fandom that constantly shits on Sansa while praising Arya to high heaven. No you jerks, they're both great characters, just because one is a tomboy doesn't make her automatically more mature/intelligent/cool or a better role model.

I equally hate the part of ASOIA/GOT fandom that can only praise Sansa by putting down Arya.

Hey, don't. I'm sure as hell not apologizing for enjoying them, and you shouldn't either.

Arya and Toph are interesting characters, and Louise is hilarious. I don't like them because of their age or gender, I like then because they're fun, and their intereactions with other characters aren't boring.

NGL, Hit-Girl was the only reason I liked Kick-Ass enough to rewatch it. Never saw the second one but her scenes made that movie worth watching for me.

Don't watch the second. I only read a summary and it completely ruined the first movie and her character for me.

The ones I recognise on this I like, idk I just think they're cool is all.

To get away from the stank of pedo accusation a bit, I too am leery of guys who only like female characters who are prepubescent badasses.

I feel they can only like female characters who don't have the "messiness" that would be standard issue if those characters were just a little bit older. Attraction to boys (even interest in romance in the abstract), any kind of self-awareness (usually painful) as relationships become more complicated.

I kind of agree tbh.
