It wasn't meant as a criticism or anything, I just find it weird how different she looks. It doesn't look like plastic surgery different either, which makes it even weirder.

Some people gain and lose weight really dramatically in their face, and GA has always been one of those people. Have you seen S2 of The X-Files? For the first few episodes Gillian was pregnant and had gained a lot of weight and her face looked very different - very chubby and soft. Then she gave birth and by the end of the season she'd lost almost all the pregnancy weight and her face was completely different again, with the shape being much more determined by bone structure than flesh. That sort of sleekly structural look peaked in late S4. By S6 she had put on a (completely healthy, reasonable) bit of weight, and her face had gotten a little bit wider and softer again.

She's pretty thin now; probably almost as thin as she was at her thinnest on TXF, I would guess. And then additionally she's older so she will have naturally lost some mass and volume in the fleshy parts of her face. I definitely think that's what accounts for her changed appearance.

Yeah, she's just really thin these days and it makes her face look long.
