Re: Just because it's a classic doesn't mean it's any good

A bunch of classics I had to read for school. Pierre, Moby Dick, The Jungle, The Scarlet Letter, The Great Gatsby, Wuthering Heights, A Tale of Two Cities, almost anything by Dante or Shakespeare . . . I think I'll stop here.

I loved A Tale of Two Cities!

I thought The Great Gatsby was pretty boring, though, yeah. The Scarlet Letter was just depressing.

I liked the first paragraph and the last . . . two-three paragraphs of A Tale of Two Cities (when Sydney Carton meets the seamstress). The in between stuff just didn't click with me, so I felt pretty surprised when I read the ending and started tearing up. I'm sure my classmates were surprised too. Ah, the joys of reading aloud for extra credit.

Ah, I enjoyed most of the book. And I think I teared up at the end too. :')

Did you actually read something by Dante other than The Divine Comedy? I've never even heard of schools assigning other stuff by him.

We had to read The Divine Comedy, La Vita Nuova, and some excerpted poems. It was part of a Medieval Lit class.
