[I started posting fics just to kink memes anonymously and not transferring to AO3. I feel so much better about it. If just the OP likes it, I'm satisfied, and people that follow my fic normally aren't disappointed when I write something weird or shitty.

I never understood the appeal of drawerfic until now because I thought "Why wouldn't you want other people to read your fic?" But, man, it is so much less pressure.]

Agreed. Stress can really dry up my writing urge, and posting on AO3 is just so... mainstream and visible, I guess? That site gets so many hits, even if half of them are bots (no idea if true or not).

Sometimes I just don't want people to be able to easily find my fic but I still want to get it out of my head and away from my tinkering little grasp. Voilà! Anon kink meme posting.

I totally know the feel , OP.

I write drawerfic all the time for fun. It's so much less worry and more fun knowing it will probably only be shown to close friends and not the whole internet.

Something doesn't have to be shown to loads of people to people worthwhile.

I have a NEVER POST idfic file on my computer. If I even consider ever posting it I cringe and the fun goes out of it.

...lotta kidfic in that drawer. Lotta Rule 63. Lotta h/c.

I've never seen the term "idfic" before. I like it!

I have a whole folder of NEVER POST fic too. Lots of h/c, crappy PWPs with no characterization, and kidfic as well.

There's an idfic bang here on DW. It's called iddyiddybangbang; I entered so I could write a Rule-63'd Nick Knight (from Forever Knight that is, not the photographer) without feeling guilty.

That being said I do have bits and pieces that have never seen the light of day. And probably never will.

I've done this. Usually when I'm looking for a muse. Sometimes some low-pressure stories are exactly what you need.

I don't mean to be rude, but the colors of this secret hurt my eyes so much that I didn't know what it said until I read the transcript :(

This is the first I've come across the term "drawerfic," but I totally have a bunch of those! It's not just that it's low pressure; sometimes, I've got an image that I can't get out of my head, and I need to write it, but I don't feel like fleshing it out into a proper story.

I'm also co-writing a story with a fandom friend right now that we have no intention of sharing with anyone. It's very fun and refreshing to know that we're just writing for ourselves and each other.

I have a lot of RP fic stuff that will never get posted anywhere. If it's not mindless fluff it's really weird porn and fandom can be very judgmental about what your kinks say about you as a person.
