I got into a tiny fandom when it was a tiny fandom.

I was initially so paranoid about getting it right. I did insane amounts of research. I reached out to betas. I worried about woobifying the characters. I cringed every time I slipped into inserting fanon characterizations.

People were lovely and welcomed me with open arms. Yay!

Now there's an influx of new people. Most of them can't write all that well and the characters are so woobified that I wonder if the authors have even seen the show. Part of me is happy for any fic at all, but the rest of me has gone into snarky hipster mode and liked the fandom better before it was cool.
