Indigenous People's Day

Apparently this is becoming popular. But am I the only one who finds it an odd replacement? Not because I don't agree with the sentiment, but I find the name ironic or something, given what was done to them. :(

What country are you talking about. (Let me guess, the US, since it was assumed we all knew what it was about?)

Also, you know that's a term used widely by Indigenous peoples (invaded, colonised, dispossessed) across the world?

AYRT - ... oh FFS. Not at you, at me. There was actually supposed to be an explanation as to WTF I was talking about, but I was multitasking.

And yes, I know that's a widely used term. We have the holiday Columbus Day, but some cities have replaced it with that.

Pls elaborate on why you find the name ironic? Since "Indigenous" just means native/originating from a place, and thus seems neutral to me.

AYRT - Sorry, see above. It's the use of the word "day" in context.

Sorry, still confused. Are you saying that you think its ironic that its replacing Columbus Day? Cause I would say its quite purposeful: replace a day celebrating a colonizer with a day celebrating culture of the people he harmed.

Exactly.

AYRT - I totally agree with why they didn't want to keep celebrating it, I guess I just didn't get what they changed it to, but if it really is meant to celebrate the cultures of the people he took over, that makes sense.

So this is American? You've still given no context.
