Re: Fashion thread - advice, opinions, anecdotes, etc!
I wear a lot of clean lines and try to emphasize my waist over my (significantly larger) thighs/butt and chest area. Being an hourglass figure, I do a lot of A-line skirts, and I often end up looking a little retro. What I try to concentrate most on when buying clothes is value and versatility - how often will I wear this? Are there multiple outfits that I can construct around this? Is it comfortable (because uncomfortable stuff often goes to the back of the closet and stays there after a couple wears)? Is it worth the money for the number of places I can wear it? I don't go to fancy places very often, and I don't wear "professional" clothes for work, so I'm light on really nice dresses/suits/etc. I have to remind myself there's not a lot of occasion to wear those things sometimes, to stop myself from splurging on something that will just sit in my closet.
I'm not a big accessory person. I'm short, so I don't want to overwhelm myself with stuff. I have some stuff I wear a lot and other items for special occasions, but I usually just have a pair of stud earrings and maybe a small necklace. I go minimal on my makeup, and my hair is always in a bun, because I play with it otherwise.
It's important to look clean, neat and professional in business settings. Being too out there can get you noticed, but it can hurt you too. If someone is noticing what you wear, it should be because you look immaculate in it, not because it's that noticeable on its own. My personal opinion, anyway.
