Troll secret, yes, but I find myself wondering... not being familiar with the legal system at play here... what exactly would the victims be hoping to gain from this, after all this time?

(Anonymous) 2015-10-10 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
I suppose that would vary, but maybe finding out they weren't the only ones, and wanting to stop this kind of shit? I mean, I haven't followed closely, but aren't there a LOT of victims here, and a lot of people who covered it up?

I mean, why would any victim ever want to put themselves through calling someone to justice? Many people don't, and they get away with it. But sometimes people can and do stand up about it, even if it takes years to get to that point.

You just know these ladies are getting tons of shit about it, too, so don't act like it's some kind of publicity thing. I"m sure that happens sometimes, but far less than rape apologists want to believe.

:/

- having to pay all those legal fees
- having to recall details of their rape in the scrutiny of the courtroom
- being the centre of media attention and scrutiny
- getting comments like: "but you were dressed that way/drunk/flirting..."

i know, right, they're money-hungry!

You just have a keyboard macro that posts that automatically, don't you?

I ask because what you posted has nothing to do with what you're responding to, and is so generic it's like the dialogue in Herb and Jamaal.

DA Yeah nah. A few other anons have responded in a similar vein to the "what have they to gain?" question, and considering a LOT of people wrt Cosby's victims have asked that and/or answered that with "money/attention", this anon has come prepared.

For many people, having a horrible secret out in the open would be enough, but in this case:

1) Cosby's still alive and still capable of sexually assaulting more women.
2) The industry and people who protected him are all still in place and this has given them a much needed, much deserved shaking up.

Shining light on an ugly dark monstrosity of a thing can be a very effective way to destroy it.

Oh you know, the usual, all that glamour and mad cash rape victims are so famous for!

I think it's more spreading the word and letting people know what he's capable of, and looking for belief. Many of them said something along the lines of 'it was Bill Cosby, who would believe me?' And they're honestly right. He was more on the 'wholesome' side with his comedy, he played family men in shows, he had a successful animated show on Nickelodeon about a character he made for children, he hit home with many people about his childhood, and the status of how he perceived youth (in his eyes) etc. It would be the person you would least suspect, the guy on TV playing the Doctor making goofy faces and quips while teaching morals.
